Black History Month Workshops with Moov Ottawa Dance For a second year in a row, Moov Ottawa Dance is excited to celebrate Black History Month. Supported by the National Arts Centre, this workshop series highlights Black street dance artists while honouring Black dance history and culture. *WE WELCOME KIDS OF ALL BACKGROUNDS TO ATTEND, BUT HIGHLY ENCOURAGE THOSE OF BLACK ROOTS TO SIGN UP* EFFECT’S KIDS BREAKING WORKSHOP (“BREAKDANCE”) Join Arnaldo “Effect” Betancourt Silva for a Kids Breaking workshop. Breaking was created by young Black and Brown youth in the 1970s in the Bronx, New York as a form of expression, resistance, and community. Known as the first Hip Hop dance, Breaking has since grown into a global movement seen on stages, in music videos, and at the Olympics. Effect-Moov Ottawa Dance’s Artistic Director and co-founder—will guide kids of all levels through breaking foundations and movement quality, while offering challenges for more advanced dancers in a fun, supportive environment. What participants can expect: A dynamic warm-up, an introduction (or refresher) to breaking basics such as toprock, two-step, and go-downs, with opportunities for advanced participants to explore power moves like windmills and head spins. The workshop will end with a short cool-down. Event details: -When: Sunday, February 8, 2026 -Time: 245PM - 4PM -Location: Ottawa Dance Directive – Studio B (Arts Court) -Address: 2 Daly Avenue (directions emailed prior) -Price: Free.99! -Ages: 6–15 -Level: Open - All levels welcomed -Capacity: 30 students Important notes: -Please arrive 10 minutes early for check-in -Parents/guardians may remain in the lobby or observe from the doorway -All Moov Ottawa Dance policies apply. -By registering, parents/guardians acknowledge the physical nature of breaking and inherent risk of injury. What to bring / wear: -Water bottle, indoor sneakers, and comfortable athletic clothing suitable for movement. Photography & filming notice: -This event will be photographed and filmed for marketing and archival purposes. ----------- DJ INFO: ttrills will be providing the beats for this workshop. Ttrills is a Nigerian-Canadian DJ who has made a name for herself in the world of music. With a passion to hone her love for multiple genres, She has crafted a sound that is uniquely her own. Growing up in Nigeria, Temi was exposed to a rich tapestry of sounds and rhythms. Today, Temi is bringing those scenes to Ottawa and the GTA.

Policy
By registering for Moov Ottawa Dance programs, workshops, or events (“Programs”), you (and your parent/guardian, if applicable) agree to these terms. Full policy: www.moovottawa.com/policy 1. Participation & Make-Ups: Programs are physically active; participants assume all injury risks. Adult 6-week programs may allow 1 make-up class as a courtesy, not guaranteed. Email us ASAP, no later than 3 days after a missed class. Make-ups depend on instructor approval, space, and schedule. Requests must include name, program, date missed/reason, and preferred options. 2. Safety: Participants must follow safety instructions and the Code of Conduct. Pre-existing conditions need not be disclosed, but participants assume responsibility if conditions limit participation or increase risk. 3. Emergencies: Dance carries inherent risks. Staff respond to injuries; serious incidents trigger 911 and guardian notification. No refunds or credits for injuries, missed classes, or partial attendance. 4. Refunds & Transfers: Adult sales are final. Spots may be transferred or sold with Moov notification. Programs canceled due to low enrollment (<6) are fully refunded. Parents may use remaining Kids’ Breaking classes for adult 6-week programs; workshops/special events excluded. Refund policy still applies if the child cannot attend. Payment plans not offered; prices in CAD+HST. Ontario Consumer Protection Act enforces non-refundable policies if clearly disclosed. 5. Belongings: Moov is not responsible for lost/stolen items. 6. Media: Photos/videos may be taken. Adults may opt out. Minors need parental permission. Independent filming must respect safety/privacy and notify Moov. 7. Etiquette: Arrive 5–10 min early. Late arrivals may observe. Respect all participants; phones off. Disruptive participants may be removed. 8. Age & Supervision: Children 6–12 require drop-off/pick-up by guardian. Supervision only 5 min before/after class. 9. Weather: Notifications via email/social media. Makeup classes or credits offered only for closures. 10. Accessibility: Notify us of needs before first class; accommodations provided where feasible. All identities and experience levels welcome. 11. Agreement: By registering, you accept policies, understand risks, and waive claims against Moov, staff, instructors, and venues except where prohibited by law.
