WHAT IS BREAKING "BREAK DANCE"?

Breaking "Break Dance", Bboying, Bgirling or Breakin' started in the 70's in the Bronx, New York as an artistic outlet for young Black and Brown kids. Today, it can be found in your modern day music videos, movies and even the Olympics! Some key movements used are top rock, footwork, freezes, and power moves. It's athletic, funky, fun to watch and a key element in Hip Hop culture.

INFORMATION ON EACH PROGRAM LEVEL

Absolute Beginner - No experience required. We suggest *some* type of movement experience like previous sports or physical activity, but not mandatory. Your child will be introduced to the basics and foundations of the dance in a fun but challenging environment.

Beginner Breaking - Perfect for kids with *some* experience. This class re-introduces and helps refine the basics of Breaking like Top Rock, simple Footwork, and freezes, while building coordination, confidence, and creativity. Kids will train in a supportive environment and finish the session with a fun parent showcase and mini battle. Some previous experience required.

Intermediate Breaking - Designed for kids with previous Breaking experience, this class pushes skills further with more complex Footwork, power moves, and musicality. Dancers will refine technique, develop their unique style, and wrap up the session with a parent showcase and a battle.

WHO ARE YOU LEARNING FROM?

Our main teacher will be Niara aka "BGirl Lotus", a mentee of our Artistic Director Arnaldo aka "BBoy Effect". On occasion, BBoy Effect will come in to help teach more difficult movements if appropriate.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM US?

  • We’re a small but dedicated team at Moov. Our focus is clear communication and creating a safe(r), supportive space for kids to learn the fundamentals of Breaking in a culturally informed and active way.

  • Classes are kept small (maximum 15 kids) so instructors can give each child proper attention within our capacity. We aim to make every class enjoyable, structured, and welcoming.

  • Kids will learn tangible and creative take-home dance moves they can show friends and family, and they’ll have a healthy space to move, be active, and release energy in a positive way.

  • We also understand that questions or concerns may come up. When they do, we keep communication open and work with you to ensure your child - and you - have the best experience possible.

  • However, we do not tolerate any disrespectful or unsafe behaviour.
