At a young age, Alea knew she was a unique girl with an eye for artistic expression, fashion and groove. With her passion to learn dance, she began her journey with the classical forms of Ballet and Jazz at the Canadian School of Dance in Ottawa.  Throughout her youth, she has been a part of many organizations such as Youth for Christ Dance Team, 2 the Roots Charity Dance Foundation and Boss Dance Crew where she began her course to event curating, choreographing and performing. Although Alea had heavy training in Hip Hop choreography, Alea eventually found her artistic home within the Street Dance styles of Hip Hop, Waacking, House and social partner dances. She began training and learning at the Flava Factory Dance Studio in 2011, and expanded her training in New York, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Toronto and Montreal. With her years of practice, Alea also shared her knowledge through teaching as she was a previous resident and guest instructor at various studios in Ottawa through her early to mid career.

With her experience with choreographing and performing, Alea has had the pleasure to showcase her work at Capital Pride 2018, Canada 150, OpenMinds Ottawa, House of Paint and Runway for Hope. Aside from performing, Alea’s also competes often in Canada and the USA placing 1st  at Under Pressure Street Dance Festival in Montreal, 2nd at the Ting Pinoy’s Got Talent Battle in Ottawa, and Top 4 and Top 8 in numerous competitions in.  As a leader in the community, she has also judge numerous competitions, and has co-organized several highly successful events such as Hit That Beat, Summer Sweat and Sole Food.

Today, Alea has co-founded Ottawa’s Newest Street Dance company, MOOV Ottawa Dance with her partner BBoy Effect. With her experience performing, unique dance project and passion to connect Ottawa to the Street Dance communities, she has won the Tontine Award, Awesome Ottawa Grant and Capital Pride Community Fund.

As the only active female Filipino Street Dancer in the Ottawa dance community, she is proud and highly dedicated to organizing events and repping at battles throughout Canada and the U.S. She brings her vivacious personality, distinguishable flare for fashion and flavor into every project she is involved in and  continues to grow as a dancer and person.

Breakin', House, Hip Hop, Popping & Latin Dances

Born in Cuba, he leaves the country in 1999 and settles in Montreal with his father. 4 years later, he returns to live with his mother in Cuba. Finally in 2007, he returns to Canada for good. Having little to do and basketball as his only hobby, he decides to get into dance. He starts of learning by imitating movements he catches here and there on television. One day he visits a dance studio located near his house and starts to meet dancers from the local scene. He tries out Popping, House and Hip hop but Bboying stands out as his favourite and it ends up becoming his passion.

In 2007 he joins the ranks of the Deadly Venoms Crew and start travelling with his dance: France, Hollande, Belgium, États-Unis, Hong Kong… He PARTICIPATES in various competitions such as Juste Debout, IBE, The Breakdown and Top Wanted. Throughout these experiences, he gathers information on the dance; allowing him to further his knowledge and horizons. Every encounter is a chance to learn a little bit more, not only on himself but also the various views existing in Bboying around the world.

Effect is the Co-Founder of Moov Ottawa Dance. He is continuing to teach workshops, judging competitions, sharing his passion, inspiring and empowering youth through art. He is looking to push himself further by participating in various competitions at an international level and creating his own event and youth programs here in Ottawa dedicated to Bboying and the Hip-Hop Culture.
